PCB Inspections and Testing

Coast Environmental provides inspections and testing for PCB's in schools and buildings. Polychlorinated biphenyls, commonly known as PCBs, are man-made toxic chemicals that persist in the environment and can bioaccumulate in living organisms. PCBs were manufactured in the United States up until the late 1970s when their manufacture was banned due to health and environmental concerns.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), studies have shown that PCBs cause cancer in animals and have non-cancer effects on the immune system, reproductive system and endocrine system. In addition, new research indicates that prenatal exposure to the chemicals can lead to low birth weight, stunted growth, asthma, immune weakness, Attention Deficit Disorder, memory problems and decreased IQ.
